Analysis of Stereotypes and Inequalities
There are stereotypes between genders from the day a baby is conceived. Boys are expected to be clothed in blue and play with toy cars, while girls are clothed in pink and play with dolls. It doesn't seem like a big deal and rarely is anyone offended by this as a child. In particular, there a numerous stereotypes about the female gender: Women are supposed to have jobs such as teachers and secretaries, they are supposed to listen and do as they are told, they are supposed to always look pretty, women are bad drivers, the list goes on. The stereotypes become more of a problem when they affect employment and your place in society. A few common stereotypes for women in the workplace are that women are not supposed to be in charge, they don’t need higher education, they should be homemakers and stay-at-home moms, and women don’t belong in politics (Brewer). Women constantly have to fight to disprove these stereotypes and be on an equal playing field with their male counterpart.
